Meta pauses plans to train AI with user data
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, initially planned to utilize user data from these platforms to train generative AI models. However, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) raised concerns based on feedback from users in the UK. In response, Meta has decided to pause and review these plans.
The ICO stated, “To fully harness the benefits of generative AI, it’s vital that the public trusts that their privacy rights will be upheld from the start.”
The ICO has assured that it will continue to monitor major generative AI developers to ensure they implement appropriate safeguards, protecting the data rights of UK users.
