New Companies House ID Checks in 2025: What UK Company Directors Need to Know

From 8 April 2025, Companies House introduced a new identity verification system as part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023. This is a major shift for UK company directors, people with significant control (PSCs), and anyone filing on behalf of a company. Here’s what the changes mean for you and how we can help you stay compliant with minimal hassle.

What’s Changing at Companies House?

Companies House is tightening up on company data and introducing mandatory ID verification for anyone involved in forming or running a UK company. This is to help reduce fraud, increase transparency, and improve trust in the UK business register.

If you are a:

• Director
• Person with significant control (PSC)
• Company secretary
• Agent or accountant filing on behalf of a company

You’ll need to verify your identity in one of two ways:

1. Via GOV.UK One Login (for individuals managing their own filings)
2. Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) – like us

The new verification system became available from 8 April 2025, with ACSP registration open from 18 March 2025.

Although it’s currently voluntary, identity checks will become legally required later in 2025 – likely around autumn. For existing companies, the process will be included in your confirmation statement submissions.
